Meet the team
Dougie - Founder of Sport Active Camps

Dougie has been involved in playing and coaching grassroots sports since he was at school and continues to do this today. Dougie is passionate about the positive impact that playing sport can have on young people’s physical and mental wellbeing, as well as building their social confidence. The central points of Dougie’s philosophy are fun and enjoyment as without these key aspects children will stop playing sport.

Dougie founded Sport Active Camps, whilst at Cardiff Metropolitan University in 2006. Whilst studying, Dougie worked in several Cardiff based primary schools delivering after school sports clubs and physical activity sessions during the school day whilst teachers had their planning, preparation and assessment time.

Dougie returned to Gloucestershire to train as a PE Teacher in 2010 and since then has worked in several secondary school-based roles, currently as a Special Needs Co-Ordinator. Dougie has also worked with Gloucestershire University mentoring trainee PE teachers, which is something he thoroughly enjoyed.

Dougie has a degree in Sports Development and a master’s degree in Sports Coaching, along with level two coaching qualifications in Football, Rugby, and Cricket.
